The COVID-19 has a broad and long-term impact on the world’s politics, economy, culture, education and other fields. In the post-pandemic era, the governance model of a strong government, the overall game of the global development pattern, the deep adjustment of the economic structure, the visualization of social contradictions, the high-quality popularization of higher education, the sharp increase of school-age population, and the digital transformation of society all pose new challenges to the development of higher education. We are required to pay more attention to the expansion of scale and elite education, the adjustment of structure and direction, the task driven integration of industry and education and the integration of science and education, the reform of higher education governance capacity, the reconstruction of education process based on popularization and digitalization, and the diversified international cooperation and exchange. To accelerate the development of higher education in the post-pandemic era, it is necessary to comprehensively strengthen the leadership of the Party and the government, comprehensively promote the high-quality development of higher education, comprehensively improve the ability of higher education to serve national needs, comprehensively promote the modernization of universities’ governance ability, comprehensively promote the digital transformation of higher education, comprehensively deepen the opening of higher education to the outside world, and then innovate the path of higher education development to help the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
